What does Mother Earth listen to while she plays online social games with her friends?
I’m so glad you asked!
On Day #1, it was the Indie Folk Revival station on Pandora.
Favorite Song That Played: Angela by the Lumineers
Why: the way he sings “Oh Angela” and “Home at last” gives me chills every time. It’s like a siren call aimed directly at my soul.
New Song Discovered: none. I’ve listened to that station so many times in the last couple years.
Experience: Amazing. The relaxed, homey vibe was perfect for the first day of getting to know the lay of the land and the people I’ll be sharing it with. It helped me hyper-focus on the game like a champ.
Stay tuned for Day # 2!

Day #2: "Piano Chill" and my "Happy" playlist on Apple music, a random 2000s nostalgia youtube video, and my "Pumped Up" playlist on Spotify.
Favorite Song That Played: You and Me by Lifehouse
Why: That song is an old favorite of mine. It has a very special place in my heart, and I fall in love with it all over again every time I hear it.
New Song Discovered: Stone Cold by Demi Levato (damn, Demi! You've got some pipes!)
Experience: Mixed. I listened to the "Happy" playlist because I needed a pick-me-up after a tech issue caused me to need to start over on that w.orthy crossword and I got frustrated that it would cost me the prize. (Hahahaha looking back on that now, that really didn't matter, did it?) But I loved the nostalgia, the occasional heartbreak, and the energy that some of the songs gave me. Seriously, my husband came home to find me dancing in the kitchen. Which isn't a bad thing. Not at all. It means it was a good day.

Day #3: Hans Zimmer Radio on Pandora
Favorite Song That Played: Actually, it was just anything from the Interstellar score. I know it's simple, but man, is it cool!
New Song Discovered: Chevaliers De Sangreal - Da Vinci Code score
Why: It was the type of pretty that made me stop and go... "Hey, what IS that?" Mm, pensive and pretty. A new genre...
Experience: Good. It had tons of epic songs that I thought were fitting for the challenge.

Day #4: Aurora (Norway) Radio on Pandora
Favorite Song: Breathe Me - Sia
Why: Personal favorite from my Twilight phase 😂
New Song: Carry You (feat. Fleurie) - Ruelle
Experience: Lovely. It was a great vibe for today.

Day #5 & 6: chillstep, electronic, and vocal trance ambient mixes on YouTube
Favorite Song: On the Horizon - Michael FK
Why: It caught my attention within the first few notes because it's soft and ethereal and pensive.
New Song Discovered: basically all of it because this isn't my typical genre. But I'll mention Smash This Beat by Hardwell x Maddix because it started with a clock ticking, and I listened to it near the deadline of the last tribal. Very fitting.
Experience: Pretty good. It helped me focus. But it also just became background noise, and so much of it sounded the same. I didn't pay attention to most of it.

Day # 7: Sleeping At Last radio on Pandora
Favorite Song: Tough to say because there were so many good ones. But let’s go with Heal by Tom Odell.
Why: It breaks my heart every time.
New Song Discovered: Quite Miss Home - James Arthur
Experience: Lovely. It’s peaceful and somber and breath-takingly beautiful.

Day #8 and 9: You know very well what music I've been listening to.
Favorite Song: Hercules by Sara Bareilles
Why: I already love Sara Bareilles, and this song hits me in all the right places, especially when she repeats the chorus one instrument away from acapella and belts out "on my knees". I rewinded to that part so many times just so I could feel the power of that moment. Hauntingly beautiful.
New Song Discovered: 98% of the songs. Let's go with "Awful Sound" because holy cheezits, that one breaks my heart. (Are you sensing a pattern with what songs resonate with me, mods?)
Experience: Well, it would have been a lot better if we had won the challenge... Then all that hard work and rocking out would have paid off, you know? Now this whole thing just makes me smad. (Yeah, you read that right. You guys are smart; you can figure out what I mean.)

Day #10: Sleeping At Last radio on Pandora
Favorite Song: it's a tie between Train Wreck by James Arthur and Hide and Seek by Amber Run
Why: The first one because, of course, it's heartbreaking, and James Arthur has a lovely voice. The second because it's such a strange, off-kilter, yet calming song.
New Song Discovered: Transformations by Sleeping At Last
Experience: Peaceful. Heaven knows I needed that today.

Day #11: Hans Zimmer radio on Pandora
Experience: I'm going to skip right to this because I only had time to listen to one song while I did the challenge. "No Time For Caution" by Hans Zimmer from the Interstellar score. It was exactly the right mood for walking into the Cave of Wonders. I just didn't realize how short my stay was going to be. 😆

Day # (what the hell is this) 12 and 13: Chance the Rapper, to honor Kitsune.
Favorite Song: Summer Friends
Why: It just sounded different than most rap songs I've heard. Super chill.
New Song Discovered: All of them. Kitsune recommended the artist to me when I said I was giving rap a chance lately (okay, I swear that was accidental. But that's hilarious).
Experience: Mostly good. There were some songs that weren't really my jam because they had that more typical rap sound. I don't think I'll become the hugest fan of that any time soon, but you were right, Kitkat. He is good.

Day # 14 and 15: the Greatest Showman soundtrack
Favorite Song: Rewrite the Stars
Why: Before I ever saw the movie, I chose not to listen to that one when it came up on my YouTube feed because I figured it would reveal too much, and I'm so glad I saved it for watching the movie (on Fourth of July, while I was buzzed; fabulous way to spend the holiday). The song and choreography were gorgeous and gave me chills. And it's Zendaya! How could I not be a fan?
New Song Discovered: The Other Side. I had actually never heard of that one at all (whereas I'd binged the lyric videos for Never Enough and This Is Me as soon as they came out). I thought it was energetic, beautifully-Broadway-esque, clever, and super well done. Like, the choreography along with it was flawless. And it's Zac Efron and Hugh Jackson. HELL YES.
Experience: Fantastic. These songs will be stuck in my head for a while, and I am A-okay with that.

Day #16: BTS - at the recommendation of (who else) Hathy
Favorite Song: Not Today
Why: It has a great energy to it and reminds me of "4 Minutes" by Madonna. Ooh, and the scene in LOTR where Aragorn gives his iconic "Not This Day" speech. I do also have to give an honorable mention to Butter. That's another fly song.
New Song Discovered: Save Me. This was one that Hathy sent to me in a PM because she thought I would like it. I did. I liked it better than some of the others she shared with me. I like the "lighter" ones, if that makes sense.
Experience: Pretty good. I get the appeal, and I'll probably listen to them occasionally, when I'm in the mood. But I don't see myself becoming obsessed.

Day #17: 2010s pop
Favorite Song: I couldn't narrow it down to just one. Wrecking Ball - Miley Cyrus, Payphone - Maroon 5, The One That Got Away - Katy Perry, and Just the Way You Are - Bruno Mars.
Why: I can't help but sing along to all of those songs and reminisce about my adolescence.
New Song Discovered: Monster - Eminem ft. Rihanna. That one had me dancing in my seat. I've never been that big into Eminem, but maybe I should look into his stuff.
Experience: Super fun. I love nostalgic music.

Day #18-20: 2010s indie rock
Favorite Songs: Midnight City - M83, Feel It All Around - Washed Out, We're Going to Be Friends - the White Stripes, No Cars Go - Arcade Fire, and Tire Swing - Kimya Dawson.
Why: Straight up nostalgia for all of these.
New Songs Discovered: Two Weeks - Grizzly Bear (gorgeous), If I Ever Feel Better - Phoenix (so timely right after that last tribal), and Osaka Loop Line - Discovery (had to include because of the band name).
Experience: Good! Tons of great vibes.

Day #21: my "Deep Songs For Thought" playlist on Spotify
Favorite Songs: Um, ALL of them, obviously. But I'll try to narrow it down to the top five that played. Can't Help Falling In Love - Kina Grannis (I fell in love with this the second I heard it in Crazy Rich Asians), Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken - P!nk (what a POWERHOUSE), Amen - Amber Run (the last minute of the song gives me chills every damn time), The War - SYML (I was shook the first time I heard it), and Alive - Sia (another song ending that chills me to the bone).
Why: I love songs that make me think and feel deeply.
New Songs Discovered: Ghost In the Wind by Birdy and Moon River by JJ Heller.
Experience: Stellar. I spent more time jamming out to the music than paying attention to Survivor. Which is fine because hardly anything was happening today anyway.
