Yeah, I wouldn't include language about "buying" in a future iteration of this challenge, but with that said, I'm very pleased with the overall results of how things turned out. We had three solid judges, and 3-4 really great sets of submissions. I feel like, even when "buying" items is allowed, the narrative is going to matter a heck of a lot more than the item itself, and I think the results here bear that out. Any player wouldn't have been able to buy their way to a win here without the requisite skills that would have helped them do well in the challenge in the first place.

nwo i'm aa bit curious tas to how tthat hydra camae to bte BOTH MAAT AND HATHOR AND FILI AND KILI HAD PREEXISTING RELATIONSHIPS PRIOR TO HYDRAING. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT PHOBOS AND DEIMOS SINCE I DON'T KNOW THEIR IDS. I'M CURIOUS ABOUT HOW YOU BROACH THE TOPIC PROPOSING A HYDRA TO SOMEONE. BUT WITH HOW WELL BOTH MAAT AND HATHOR AND TORTOISE AND HARE DID, I DO THINK IT'S BECOMING CLEAR THAT IT IS AN ADVANTAGE AND I'M NOT SURE HOW WE SHOULD CONTEND WITH THAT TO KEEP OUR GAMES AS FAIR AS POSSIBLE.

DID YOU INTENTIONALLY INCLUDE THAT QUESTION ABOUT THE MAJORITY OF PLAYERS NOT BEING IN THE END AS A WAY TO TELL THEM IT'S AN F2?

Yeah I think that’s probably something that should be talked about in the future with hydras. Or do an interesting twist with players who usually aren’t allies and usually target each othwr

ALTHOUGH HAVING A HYDRA PODCAST TOGETHER WHILE PLAYING A GAME WAS A GENIUS IDEA, SO I'M A BIT OKAY WITH FILI AND KILI. I WISH THEY'D MADE IT FURTHER.

I'm not convinced this is evidence that hydras provide a significant advantage but I think the subjective feeling is probably more important anyway.

I'm not convinced this is evidence that hydras provide a significant advantage but I think the subjective feeling is probably more important anyway. I'm with you, on both points, for what it's worth. The only reason I'd avoid hydras in future games is because enough people are explicitly turned off by them that it's a losing battle.

I would say Hydraing was not much of an advantage for me - it *felt* like one, because it was a lot less work, but it's so much harder to make solid connections with people when you're not talking to them 1to1.
Obviously the strategy we employed made that even harder, but I suspect that either of us on our own would not have been blindsided like we were because people would have cared more about not letting us go.
That's from my point of view, anyway. I think if one player in the hydra is significantly more active than the other then it becomes more of an advantage, since then it essentially does become 1to1 conversations but you have a person to bounce ideas off who you can trust completely. Some people can probably pull off establishing a rapport in non-1to1 convos too, just not I!

Myself and... Kili? (it's been so long I forget who I am lmao) had discussed podcasting about the previous Survivor game, Survival of the Fittest, right before this one came up, so the hydra option had an immediate obvious answer to me. I think Kili thought the same.
