Yeah I'm still not convinced that hydraing is an inherent advantage. Fili/Kili here almost certainly would have lasted longer on their lonesome than as a hydra, P/D had one half just be time zone fucked most of the game and the reason why M/H have lasted the longest is because despite having days when 1 member just isn't around, they've put a lot of work into the other time and even then they've stumbled into a major pitfall in jury management where the only saving grace is that the other people they want to be near the end with also have a similar misgiving.
And hydraing certainly allowed more people to experience this game than had we have the same timeline but with no hydras. However, it wouldn't be a terrible thing for hydras to be on hiatus for a while, especially for those who were interested in this game and opted out because of the hydras, and I don't think there are any complex game in the queue atm (though I have no idea whether Three Houses will earn that rating) so it'll also likely happen naturally.

BUT WITH HOW WELL BOTH MAAT AND HATHOR AND TORTOISE AND HARE DID, I DO THINK IT'S BECOMING CLEAR THAT IT IS AN ADVANTAGE AND I'M NOT SURE HOW WE SHOULD CONTEND WITH THAT TO KEEP OUR GAMES AS FAIR AS POSSIBLE. Well uh, you don't allow them, that's how

In the application we asked people if they had any strong preferences/anti-preferences for their hydra partner.

I don't see how it's a bad idea to give people who are going to be playing a game with someone for like 2 months a say in who that person is? It sounds pretty much like a common courtesy tbh. Like both people had to put each other and it's not like we didn't also think through "is such a combination too strong".

Also very interesting that M&H have turned a blind eye to equally big challenge threat Hades in all this?

What was the metric for judging how strong a combination is / would be

What was the metric for judging how strong a combination is / would be A mixture of: 1. How far have the players themselves gotten 2. Do we think that the players themselves cover a hug weakness of the other Not going to get too deep into IDs will spoiler the rest one half of each of PD and MH had never even made merge, and while I'd say both FK have had good runs even recently, neither had made FTC in an anon game and we figured their weak points were similar enough while also having such diverging playstyles it wouldn't be a ridicilously strong combo.
